Survival horror remakes vs new IP: which one should the market reward?

   Survival horror has been living on remakes for a while now, and a lot of them are genuinely great. $RESI remakes, $DSPC, the $SLHL revival. But every time a remake wins, I worry the next brave new idea gets one less chance.

   So, fellow save room enjoyers: is the remake wave healthy, or is it a comfortable room we never want to leave?

   Franchise fatigue is real, but remakes are weirdly immune to it. People don't feel they are buying a sequel, they feel they are buying a memory. Different signal.

   I play everything on the hardest mode, so remakes are how I finally beat games I was too scared to finish as a kid. Healing, honestly.

   Long the craft: the best remakes were made by people who clearly loved the original and still changed things. That is not a safe bet, that is a risky bet with a familiar name.

   New IP people, where are you? $AMNS and $OTLS were new once, and look what they did to the genre. First person, no weapons, just run. That was a new idea.

   The $SURV index splits nicely if you tag remakes vs original titles. Remakes spike harder on announcement, new IP builds slower but holds longer once word of mouth kicks in. Both are fine trades, just different time horizons.

   Watching $SHFF and $REQM conversation side by side is interesting. Overlapping fanbases, very different flavors of anticipation. I don't read anything into it yet, the signal is mostly curiosity.

   My dream: a new IP that feels like a remake of a game that never existed. Fixed camera, typewriters, but a totally new world.

    That is basically the indie scene right now. Retro style, new stories. Maybe that is the real answer to my question.
