The feature in my drawer is cosmic horror. Every note I get is some version of 'but what is the monster.' $COSM has some of the most loyal chatter on CRYPT and some of the lowest broad heat. How do you sell dread that is meant to be unknowable?
Genuinely asking before I rewrite the third act into a creature for the fourth time.
From the contest pile: cosmic scripts that work make the unknowable personal. A character who cannot stop measuring the thing. The ones that fail describe the void for six pages.
Trailer side, cosmic is the hardest cut there is. You cannot show the thing, so you sell the faces looking at it. $THNG gets away with it because the paranoia is the hook, not the creature.

Yes. A lot of the best cosmic horror lately has been timestamps, broadcasts and instruction manuals. The form does the selling.
From a slate perspective, cosmic is a budget problem more than a story problem. Scale is expensive and the payoff is ambiguity. Keep it small and contained and the math improves a lot. Not advice, never advice.
The slow burn crowd will follow you anywhere if the last ten minutes actually open the sky.
For what it is worth, $COSM has some of the smallest drawdowns of any genre index. Small base, very steady. It does not sell hard, but it rarely gets sold off either.
