Hello Desk. I make horror shorts in Lagos, mostly for YouTube, mostly on weekends with friends who owe me favors. I want to talk about how our folklore is finally getting space in horror, not only in family drama.
Many older Nollywood films used the supernatural as a moral lesson: do bad, and the spirit comes. Now younger creators are playing with atmosphere, sound and suspense. Same stories from our grandparents, new grammar.

Sound question: how do you handle night ambience in a city as loud as Lagos? Generators, traffic, music everywhere. That seems like both a problem and a gift.
A gift! When the generator stops suddenly, the whole street goes silent. Everyone knows that silence. I build scenes around it.
I would love to have you on the podcast sometime. A whole episode on generator silence as a horror device sounds perfect.

Question for staff: how does CRYPT treat creator shorts from West Africa? Do they count toward regional heat, or only features?
Right now regional heat mostly reads titles and the conversation around them, so a strong shorts scene shows up as creator chatter more than as a title line. We know that undercounts places where shorts are the main format, and it is on the list for after V1.0.
