   Editorially, the pitches in my inbox have shifted. Fewer 'grounded trauma slasher', more 'fun slasher with a hook.' Readers seem to want the joy back.

   Okay, updating my thesis: fatigue is real in sentiment, murkier in tickets, and mostly a story problem. Still short, just less smug about it.

   From a writing angle, fatigue is usually a story problem. The sequels that work find a new question. The ones that feel tired are just asking the old question louder.

    I will say the thing: the original $EXOR and $HLWN are untouchable, so every sequel gets compared to a masterpiece. That is an unfair fight, and it shows up as fatigue.

    The Index page lets you split these. On my read, legacy titles run hot on heat and cooler on sentiment compared to originals. Whether that turns into tickets is the whole debate.

    No, but sentiment does, and sentiment is where fatigue shows up first. Loud and sour is not the same as loud and excited.

    Meta slasher fan here and I will defend this: people complain about $SCRM every cycle and then argue about it for weeks. Arguing is engagement. Heat does not care if you are annoyed.

    Buy the dip guy reporting for duty. Grumpy chatter is priced in. Legacy franchises survive because the complaining is part of the ritual. Not advice.

    Ten years working a theater. Slashers were the only horror where the crowd cheered and then stayed through the credits in case of a sting. That crowd never left. It just waited for good ones.

    Buying the dip on legacy franchises is literally my bio. Every time sentiment drops on a big slasher name, it recovers by the next trailer. Fans complain loudly and show up anyway.

    You cannot strip out the franchise names, that is the genre! Slashers have always been sequels with a new mask. The meta ones are the whole point.

    Half of the $SLSH lift is $TRFR and $SCRM chatter. Strip out the franchise names and the index looks a lot more ordinary. I remain short on the idea that sequels equal a movement.
