Using CRYPT signals in a pitch deck without looking like a trend chaser

   Putting together a deck for my folk horror feature and I keep staring at the $FOLK chart. It has been climbing on Reddit chatter for weeks. Part of me wants to slap it on slide 3 as proof of audience. Part of me thinks any producer will read that as 'this writer chases trends.'

   Has anyone actually used a CRYPT signal in a pitch? How did you frame it?

   From the financing side: a sentiment chart is fine as color, never as the thesis. What I want to see is that the audience exists over years, not that it spiked this month. If you show $FOLK, show the long line, not the last two weeks. Not advice, obviously, just what keeps me reading.

   The script is the argument. The deck is the garnish. If slide 3 is doing more work than page 1, fix page 1.

   I used a heat score once as a single line under the comps. 'Audience conversation around contained creature films remains steady.' Nobody asked about it, nobody laughed at it. That is the best outcome a slide can have.

   That is really useful. The long line is honestly flatter and more boring, which is maybe the point. Boring means durable?

   Staff note since this comes up a lot: CRYPT indices measure conversation, not demand or revenue. A rising line means people are talking. Great for 'there is an appetite for this conversation,' risky for 'this will make money.' Please frame it that way so nobody gets burned in a room.

   Speaking as someone who reads a lot of decks secondhand: the ones that age badly name a trend. The ones that age well name a feeling. 'Grief in a small community' outlives 'folk horror is hot.'

   Counterpoint, sort of: divergence is interesting. If $FOLK chatter is up but new releases in the space are thin, that gap is the pitch. Supply lagging conversation. Still not advice, still no peace of mind.
