Every fall, dates move, and every fall the comments decide it means a film is in trouble. Sometimes it is. Often it is just the calendar getting crowded, a format window opening up, or a marketing plan that needs more runway.
My general read after a few years covering this: a move to a quieter weekend is often confidence, a move deep into winter with no explanation is the one to watch, and a move off the calendar entirely is where the worry is justified.
As the slasher calendar keeper I have strong feelings about this. Every shuffle means I redo my color coding.
From the financing side, a date move is not automatically bad news for the backers. Sometimes it protects the release. What matters is whether the marketing spend moves with it or gets spent twice. Not advice, just scar tissue.

Would add: horror in particular benefits from not opening against another horror film. Two scary movies on one weekend split the same Friday night crowd.
Does the Calendar page pick up date moves quickly? I noticed a title heat blip on a date change once and could not tell if it was real interest or just the news cycle.
The Releases and Calendar pages refresh with the rest of the pipeline. A heat blip on a date change is usually news coverage, which is why news is weighted separately from audience chatter (it is on the Method page). If the blip is all news and no Reddit or YouTube, treat it as noise.

Critic angle: a date move sometimes shifts screenings too, and that can change when reviews land. Nobody outside notices, but it changes the whole shape of opening week coverage.
