  1. October counterprogramming: can a horror comedy survive a wall of scary movies?
    Box Office Floor· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #10

Sound designer note: horror comedy is harder to mix than people think. The scare stings and the laugh beats fight for the same space.

  2. Nollywood horror shorts and the folklore we grew up with
    International Desk· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #4

Sound question: how do you handle night ambience in a city as loud as Lagos? Generators, traffic, music everywhere. That seems like both a problem and a gift.

  3. Do premium formats actually help horror, or is that just for blockbusters?
    Box Office Floor· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #3

Speaking as someone who mixes: a premium sound room is where horror gets to show off. Silence is louder in a good room. The quiet before a scare is where you really feel the format.

  4. K-horror and the shaman film: why $WAIL still sets the standard
    International Desk· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #8

Sound designer note: the drums in those ritual scenes are mixed so loud they almost push the dialogue out. It feels like the ceremony is taking over the movie itself. I study it like homework.

  5. The save room as a design idea: why a safe room makes the rest scarier
    Games & Series· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #3

Sound designer confirming: those themes do heavy lifting. A calm, repeating melody is a promise. The best games also let you hear the corridor outside the door.

  6. Yard haunt builds 2026: post your tombstones, fog and disasters
    The Crypt Lounge· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #6

Sound is cheap and terrifying. A hidden speaker under the porch playing slow creaks and a far away music box. Keep it quiet so people lean in.

  7. Writing a monster you never fully show
    Writers' Room· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #5

Sound is how you show it without showing it. $JAWS is basically a sound design argument with a shark attached. Write the sound into the script and I will love you forever.

  8. Short film programming: how do you order a great horror shorts block?
    Festival Circuit· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #5

Check the audio levels on every short before the night. Nothing breaks a spell like a film that is twice as loud as the one before it.

  9. Horror podcasts as IP farms: are fiction feeds the new spec pile?
    Creator Economy· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #7

Sound designer checking in. The best audio horror is a sound design masterclass, and it breaks my heart how often a screen version throws that away and adds a loud score instead.

  10. Do trailers actually move the index, or just the Fear gauge?
    Index & Sentiment· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #8

A good trailer is 40 percent sound design and I will not be taking questions.

  11. Best practical effects of all time (opinions required)
    The Crypt Lounge· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #5

Sound design is a practical effect and I will stand on this hill. Half the performance in $FLYX is in what you hear.

  12. Introduce yourself: new members start here
    The Crypt Lounge· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #8

Sound designer. I have destroyed so much celery for this genre. First memory: a sound effects record my dad owned, mostly creaking doors.

  13. Contained horror on a tight budget: what on the page quietly costs money?
    Writers' Room· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #4

The sound department thanks you. A door that breathes costs me a microphone and an afternoon.

  14. Crowdfunding a micro budget feature: can genre signals help pick the launch window?
    Creator Economy· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #10

Sound in the budget. I am so proud.

  15. Crowdfunding a micro budget feature: can genre signals help pick the launch window?
    Creator Economy· FoleyPhantomCreator·· post #6

Please budget for sound. Nearly every micro budget horror I have been asked to rescue ran out of money right before the mix.
